Aircraft History

The Cessna 510 Citation Mustang is a very light jet first flown in 2005. Cessna designed the Mustang as an entry-level jet that could be flown by private pilots for business or personal use. A very light jet, or VLJ, is the lightest classification of business jets. Though there had been numerous forays into this market before the Mustang, it was this plane that popularized the concept in the aviation industry.

The Mustang was a core part of the Citation business jet family from 2007. During this time, Cessna introduced an enhanced version of the Mustang known as the High Sierra. This variant includes a unique paint scheme as well as premium leather seats, handmade carpet, and some additional quality-of-life upgrades.

In 2017, Cessna ended production on the Mustang after the introduction of the Citation M2. The M2 is larger and faster, with the tradeoff of increased cost. Still, many people remain passionate about the Mustang, and there are 472 Mustangs in active operation today.
