Cessna Citations at a Glance
A Deeper Look at Cessna Citations
There are dozens of Cessna aircraft models in the Citation family, ranging from single-pilot 4-seater planes all the way up to crewed 10-passenger aircraft.
Cessna business jets are built to last and can last for years, so many of the aircraft that we buy and sell are no longer produced. However, Cessna currently manufactures 6 Citation models. Read more about these latest planes and discover what you have to gain when you’re ready to upgrade!

525 Citation M2 Gen2
The Citation has long been a staple of the Citation family. The original 525 Citation was unveiled in 1989, with additional variants introduced over the following years. The 525 is a single-pilot, 6-seater aircraft that has become one of the most classic Citation models. In fact, over a quarter of the combined Citation jets that have ever been produced are 525 variants.
One of the latest updates came in 2021 when Cessna overhauled the M2 program. The new and improved Citation M2 Gen2 offers a restyled, premium interior, additional cargo capacity, and extra legroom for the copilot position.
There are currently 380 M2’s in operation.
525B Citation CJ3+
As hinted at by the model number, the 525B Citation CJ3+ is an offshoot of the 525 Citation CJ2 Cessna aircraft models. This plane was first introduced in 2014 as an upgrade to the standard CJ3. Though designed for single-pilot operation, the CJ3+ can also operate with 2 crew members. There are usually 6 additional seats for passengers, but CJ3s are highly customizable and some may have different configurations.
The CJ3+ introduces further enhanced seats for added comfort, as well as an upgraded avionics system from Garmin, replacing the Rockwell Collins avionics system from the base CJ3. There are currently over 250 CJ3+ aircraft in operation.
525C Citation CJ4 Gen2
The 525C Citation CJ4 is a larger variant of the 525 Citation CJ2 that adds additional capacity and range compared to its smaller predecessors. The CJ4 can seat 9 passengers in addition to the pilot and has a range of 2,165 nautical miles.
The CJ4 first flew in 2008 out of Wichita’s McConnell Air Force Base, and soon the plane was available. After years of successful performance, Cessna introduced an upgrade to the CJ4: The Citation CJ4 Gen2.
Although the CJ4 Gen2 has the same performance specs as the original CJ4, the cabin experience has been significantly improved with quality-of-life improvements. An improved entry stair design makes ingress much more convenient. Plus, the interior of the Gen2 has been overhauled with higher quality materials and more optimized space.
These improvements have continued to keep the CJ4 at the head of the pack. There are currently over 400 CJ4 Gen2s in operation.
560 Citation XLS Gen2
The 560 Citation XLS Gen2 is one of the newest Citations in active service. First introduced in 2022, the XLS Gen2 is the latest evolution of the Citation Excel. These midsize business jets can generally seat 6 to 8 passengers alongside a flight crew of 2.
The XLS Gen2 is the latest variant in a long line of improvements to the original Citation Excel. The interior has been updated with the latest design features to give the XLS Gen2 a refined, modern look. Cessna has also added all kinds of amenities, such as a wireless cabin management system, USB charging ports in every seat, and the option to add a premium Bongiovi immersive sound system.
Since the XLS Gen2 is so new, there are only around 40 in operation—but if you want to be on the cutting edge of the Citation family, the XLS Gen2 is the way to go.
680A Citation Latitude
The Citation Latitude is one of the larger Cessna aircraft models in the Citation family. It has a passenger capacity of 9 and a maximum range of 2,700 nautical miles. The Latitude requires a crew of 2 to operate.
The Citation Latitude was made available in 2015 and has proved very popular since its introduction. In larger Citations like the Latitude, clients love the wide floors and 6-foot standup cabins when compared to a smaller jet. There are currently around 400 in operation.
700 Citation Longitude
The Citation Longitude isn’t just the largest Citation model—it’s Cessna’s largest business jet, period. The Longitude has the same cross-sectional profile as the Latitude, meaning it features the same wide walkways and 6-foot ceilings. However, the plane has also been lengthened by a seat row.
This additional space allows the Longitude to seat 10 passengers. The flight range is 3,600 nautical miles. Since being introduced in 2019, there are over 100 Longitudes in current operation.
